Welcome to Halton, a vibrant and dynamic borough that offers a fantastic place to live and work. Halton is a unitary borough council that encompasses the towns of Runcorn and Widnes, as well as the surrounding parishes of Daresbury, Hale, Moore and Preston Brook.
Halton Borough Council is one of the largest employers in the Borough, supporting a population of over 128,000 people. Many of our staff are also residents giving strong local connections with the community.
Halton enjoys a prime location at the heart of the region’s motorway network, making it easily accessible from Liverpool, Manchester, and Chester. Our modern network of roads and expressways, including a unique 17km dedicated Busway, ensures convenient transport throughout the borough. Halton boasts three railway stations which provide fast and frequent services across the UK. Commuters can reach Liverpool in 20 minutes, Manchester in 40 minutes, and London in less than 2 hours, with regular connections to Birmingham, Chester, Crewe, and North Wales.
Halton’s proximity to both Manchester International Airport and Liverpool John Lennon Airport—one of Europe’s fastest-growing regional airports—enhances its connectivity. Additionally, ferries to Ireland and the Isle of Man are easily accessible.
The history of Halton is rich and interwoven, with links between Widnes and Runcorn dating back 900 years to the early 12th century. These two towns have long been connected, beginning with a ferry service across the river to pay taxes at Halton Castle.
At Connect2Halton, we are dedicated to recruiting and nurturing talent that will continue to drive our borough forward. Join us in making Halton a place where people thrive, businesses flourish, and communities are at the heart of everything we do.
